How to Convert SRT to Word

1. Export SRT, VTT, or a Zoom transcript

1. From your editor or platform, download captions as .srt or .vtt.
2. Zoom cloud recordings: open the recording → download Audio transcript / VTT, or copy the on-screen transcript text (speaker + timecode blocks work too).
3. YouTube Studio and many editors also export SRT/VTT — any of those paste cleanly here.

2. Paste into SRT2Word

1. Open srt2word.com — or use the converter below on this page.
2. Paste into the left pane, or drop a .srt / .vtt / .txt file. The right pane shows a live preview.
3. Optional: click Paste sample to see speakers and timestamps first. Drafts can autosave in this browser.

3. Tune layout, then download

1. Toggle Show timestamps when you want a reading script without time codes.
2. Keep Merge same speaker on to collapse consecutive cues into readable paragraphs.
3. Click Download .docx for a new Word file. Or use Copy formatted / Export PDF when you do not need a new .docx.
4. Open the file in Microsoft Word, Word Online, Google Docs, or LibreOffice and edit.

Can you just open SRT in Word?

Yes — an SRT is plain text. File → Open → All Files → pick the .srt. What you get is raw cue blocks: numbers, --> timing lines, and sentences sliced every few words. Turning that into a readable document means find-and-replace surgery on every file. Fine for a one-page test; painful for a 40-minute episode. The converter exists to skip that cleanup while keeping optional timing next to each line.

Timestamps on vs off (pick for the next job)

• Keep timestamps when translators, QA, legal, or producers need to match a line back to the video.
• Hide timestamps when the deliverable should read like prose — minutes, blog drafts, client transcripts, word-count quotes.
• Merge same speaker so multi-speaker interviews read as a script instead of one-line cues.

Tip from real workflows: if someone might ask for timing later, keep a timestamped copy too. Two downloads from the same paste cost almost nothing.

What survives — and what we intentionally drop

• Kept: dialogue text, optional time ranges, speaker labels typed in the file (Name:, [Name], WebVTT <v Name>).
• Removed: cue numbers and player-only clutter.
• Dropped on purpose: VTT cue settings / on-screen styling — Word is not a caption player.
• Not this product: we do not rebuild Word → SRT. Keep the original caption file if timed cues must come back later.

Common mistakes

• Opening SRT in Word and stopping — you still have subtitle code, not a transcript.
• Stripping timestamps before anyone needs to fact-check against the recording.
• Expecting VTT position/color tags to appear in Word (they won’t — and shouldn’t).
• Uploading meeting transcripts to a random converter when a private, browser-side tool will do.
